As a contest rule, the regional winners that comprised the court of Miss Philippines 1927 had to come from any province of the region. By rank, Miss Luzon, Miss Visayas and Miss Mindanao were equivalent to second, third and fourth places respectively.

Nora Maulana was the niece of the Sultan of Jolo and a descendant of the founder of the Sultanate of Sulu, Paduka Mahsari Maulana al-Sultan Sharif ul-Hashim. "Maulana" in Arabic means "protector". She was educated at Silliman University where she wrote scholarly books about Mindanao culture ("A Study of Sulu Ballads"). She married a Christian teacher, Hermenegildo Mercado.
